Copperhead Snake in the Car!

On a bright, sunny day, I was driving on Route 202 with my daughter in the back seat. Suddenly, she yelled, "There's a snake!" I was cruising at 55 MPH, focused on the road ahead, when I saw a snake slithering right in front of the windshield.

I didn't know what to do. The snake started moving horizontally across the windshield. I had my iPad next to me, just in case the snake changed direction and approached us.

Staying calm and steady, I drove to the nearest gas station. The attendant took one look and gasped, "Oh, it's a Copperhead. The baby snakes are more dangerous."

He mentioned that he used to work for an exterminating company and knew a lot about snakes. I had no weapons with me, except for some epee fencing blades from my daughter's fencing tournament. I didn't want to hurt the snake.

I handed him a broken fencing blade, and he managed to catch the snake with his bare hands, without harming it. Finally, he released the snake into the woods, but not before posing for a picture.

In the end, everyone was happy, except for Bob's wife, who repeatedly reminded him, "Don't get bit!" You can hear her in the video.

These things are still unanswered questions in my mind:

  • What would have happened if this incident occurred at night?

  • How did the snake get into the car and how long had it been there?

  • What if the snake had been more aggressive?

That's why they say, God is great. For Bob to be there in time to help us out, risking the bite, is unbelievable. Thank you, Bob, you're truly a Godsend!
